  • Film Production

    From your first semester, you’ll be making films. Develop creative and technical filmmaking skills through hands-on projects, expert mentorship, industry-standard facilities, and real-world experience.

  • Screen and Audio Production

    Combine creativity with innovation and develop skills to produce streaming content from web series to podcasts, across multiple platforms.

What you'll study

To graduate from the Bachelor of Film and Screen Production, you must successfully complete 24 units of study.

There are 2 x 8-unit majors to choose from - a Film Production major or a Screen and Audio Production major. Students may enrol in one or both.

Students select either an 8-unit second Major or two 4-unit minors (or one 4-unit minor and 4 units of electives)

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previous studies or relevant work experience. This could reduce the number of courses you need to study to complete your degree.

Entry requirements

You need to satisfy the following requirements to be considered for entry into this degree.

To study this degree, we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

Non-ATAR entry

If you don't have an ATAR, you can attend an interview and supply a portfolio and written statement.

Interview information

Applicants who do not have an ATAR must partake in an interview and provide:

  • a school exit statement or evidence of previous education standards achieved.
  • a written statement (500 words) addressing your goals and aspirations in the film and media industries and what area (eg director, producer, editor, cinematographer, sound recordist, art director etc) interests you the most.
  • a portfolio of examples of your films, and scripts or media works at interview.

  2. Please register for an interview. Once registered, we will review your portfolio and invite you to be interviewed.

You'll need to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires:

  • IELTS (Academic) - Minimum overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each of the four components - listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Alternative English language proficiency tests may also be accepted.

It is a requirement that Queensland-based students hold a current positive notice indicating that they are deemed suitable for working with children and young people whilst studying the Bachelor of Film and Screen Production. Film Production has a focus on creating films made for the big screen whereas in Screen and Audio Production you'll be making media for the small screens such as TV, computers, and phones to be distributed on streaming platforms and social media.
